1. Zippo – Best Lighter For Cigars

Best Cigar Lighters - Reviews and Buyer's GuideWithout a doubt, Zippo is one of those brands that have become intrinsically associated with the product it makes.

There is a good reason for that, however, as Zippo lighters started being manufactured in 1933, gaining an outstanding reputation throughout the almost 100 years that have passed.

This great reputation has been solidified due to the high quality of each Zippo lighter that has been manufactured.

Featuring a tough and rugged all-metal construction, Zippo lighters are incredibly durable and resistant to external elements. This, in combination with its high-quality mechanism and its refilling capabilities, results in a device that will last you a lifetime without lowering its level of performance.

Provided you use genuine Zippo-branded lighter fluid, flints and wicks, the flame produced by your lighter will remain strong and well-defined throughout the years.

Features You Would Appreciate

Despite featuring such a high level of engineering and design, however, Zippo lighters are characterized by being incredibly compact and portable.

Largely, this has to do with two things:

  • For one, the materials used to make its mechanism are top-of-the-line.
  • Secondly, the construction and design of the product have been refined and improved over the span of almost 100 years, aiming at achieving perfection.

The result is a device that works basically anywhere, producing a strong flame that does not go out due to difficult external conditions such as wind or even rain.

Verdict

Taking into account the reliability, practicality, durability and overall quality of Zippo lighters, it is easy to see why these devices have become a staple in American (and world) culture. Furthermore, they come in a huge variety of beautiful designs, a factor that adds to their versatility and universal appeal.

All in all, Zippo lighters represent a smart investment that has the potential of lasting a lifetime and become an integral part of your daily routine.

Pros
  • Completely windproof
  • All metal construction
  • Lifetime duration
  • Made in the USA
  • Includes replacement flints and wicks
  • Works under any conditions
Cons
  • Requires Zippo-braded lighter fluid

2. Alec Bradley “The Burner” – Best Butane Lighter

Best Cigar Lighters - Reviews and Buyer's GuideThose who are looking for a more stationary kind of torch lighter may be glad to find out there are products available such as the Alec Bradley “The Burner”.

This impressively large and sturdy torch lighter has been designed to sit at a table or counter until it needs to be used. As a result, it’s incredibly dependable and reliable.

While it may seem a bit over the top, its industrial design is completely justified in that it produces durability, stability and a great level of dependency.

The Feature You Would Appreciate

Without a doubt, one of the strongest features provided by this device is that it can be used as a Bunsen burner, making it an extremely versatile product.

Even though it looks somewhat intimidating, this product is easy to operate. Largely, this has to do with its single-action ignition. Moreover, its easy-adjustment fuel controls can help you create a flame of the perfect size and potency.

Using 1.4-fluid ounces butane fuel canister, this torch lighter has the potential of being used a large number of times before it needs to be refilled.

Fresh New Product. Buy The Best

Without a doubt, one of the big selling points of this product is that it is completely electric, not requiring the use of butane, fuel or lighter fluid of any kind in order to function. Apart from making the entire process easier and more comfortable, this characteristic results in a safer and healthier experience.

Largely, this has to do with the fact that the operation of the Robusto Cigar Lighter does not require the manipulation of toxic substances (or the inhalation of toxic emissions, for that matter). As if this wasn’t enough, a butane-free system helps prevent and maintain the taste and smell of fine cigars.

Judging by reviews and comments alike, another big selling point of the Robusto Cigar Lighter is its ease of use. With it, you can light up a cigar in a matter of seconds. Best Cigar Lighter – Buyer’s Guide

Factors to Consider When Buying a Cigar Lighter

Type of Gas Used

Best Cigar Lighters - Reviews and Buyer's GuideTypically, torch lighters use either butane or natural gas as fuel. Both these substances are relatively safe, and on most occasions, they do not represent a hazard. However, there may be some people who are allergic to them.

If you think you may be allergic to one of these lighter fuels, it is advisable to avoid buying a torch lighter that uses that particular substance as its main source of fuel. At this point, it is important to mention that there are electric torch lighters available for purchase.

Wind Resistance

By and large, torch lighters feature flames that are stronger than those of regular lighters. Many of them create flames that are capable of resisting the power of wind without becoming extinguished.

If you do not plan on using your lighter outdoors, this may not be an issue at all. However, if you are an outdoors kind of person, a wind-resistant flame is the only way to go.

Heat

For the great majority of users, the amount of heat reached by a torch lighter is irrelevant as long as the device does its job. However, in certain applications, the level of heat is worthy of consideration.

If you are intending on using your torch lighter for industrial or otherwise-professional applications, it is always a good idea to check out the level of heat produced by its flame before making a purchase.

Number of Flames

For many cigar enthusiasts, the higher the number of flames, the better. For that reason, many modern torch lighters feature more than one flame. As a matter of fact, there are torch lighters that are capable of producing two, three, four and even five flames at the same time. It’s important to take into account, however, that more flames usually means more fuel consumption.

Fuel Efficiency

Building upon the previous point, it can be said that fuel efficiency is one of the most important factors to take into consideration before buying a particular torch lighter. The main factors that create fuel efficiency are two: Flame size and fuel capacity. Apart from taking into account these factors, it’s always a good idea to check whether or not the device has an adjustable flame level.

Portability

In terms of portability, there are two basic torch lighter configurations: Portable and stationary. As the name implies, portable torch lighters can be easily carried in your pocket or bag. However, there are some models that are easier to carry than others. Stationary torch lighters are not meant to be taken outdoors. Instead, they are meant to stay in your cigar room or kitchen, waiting to be used.

Design and Looks

The final factor to consider when buying a torch lighter is the way it is designed. A well-designed torch lighter should be easy to hold, carry and use. At the same time, there is the matter of ergonomics. Additionally, a well-thought-out design will make the device look good. Despite not being fundamental for its functioning, the looks of a torch lighter can greatly add to its overall value.

Tips for Maintaining Your Cigar Lighter in Great Condition

Bleed the Chamber before Refilling

One of the most common mistakes when refilling a torch lighter is neglecting to bleed the chamber. Simply put, bleeding the chamber means purging all the remaining butane and air in the fuel tank. This will help you prevent the formation of air bubbles that could hinder the performance of the device.

You could do it by using a small screwdriver to push the valve inwards. Additionally, holding the torch lighter upside down may help bleed the last remaining air out the of the chamber.

Clean the Jets

Often, ash and other particles accumulate on the jets of your torch lighter. If enough matter accumulates there, your torch lighter may stop functioning correctly, particularly in regards to the ignition of the flame. Most of the time, they can be cleaned by blowing and, perhaps, using a q-tip. However, in more extreme cases, you can use a can of compressed air. Simply, put the can’s nozzle right against the jet chamber and give it a few good blasts.

Use Your Torch Lighter Periodically

One of the keys to maintaining your torch lighter working in tip-top shape for a long period of time is simply using it with regularity. If you have more than one, remember to alternate between them so they all keep working properly and without inconveniences.

Use the Right Type of Fluid

One of the biggest mistakes amateur torch lighter users tend to make is using the wrong type of fluid to refill their device. This can cause the lighter to malfunction almost instantly, and it can even damage its mechanism in a permanent fashion. Another big mistake is using low-quality butane or gas to refill your torch lighter.

If you do not know how to tell whether butane is high-quality or not, just check the number of times it has been refined. The more times it has been refined, the higher its quality. For torch lighters, it is advisable to strive for butane that has been refined at least four times.

Do Not Push the Flame Too Close to the Cigar

When you light up a cigar, try not to push the flame of your torch lighter too close to its tip. If you do this, you run the risk of getting ash and debris inside the jet chamber of the torch lighter, which, over time, can accumulate, causing the device’s mechanism to become damaged and malfunction.

How to Properly Refill Your Cigar Lighter

Open the nozzle: Before anything else, locate both the refilling nozzle and the adjustment screw. Once you know precisely where they are, proceed to open the nozzle to allow refilling.

Bleed the chamber: As previously mentioned, it is important to make sure the fuel chamber is completely devoid of fuel rests and air. In order to accomplish that, use a small screwdriver or another pointy object to press down the nozzle, letting the remaining gasses come out. Remember, it can often help to hold the torch lighter upside down while simultaneously pressing the nozzle down.

Shut the flow: At this point, it is necessary to shut the fuel flow completely off. If you can’t find it, take into account that it has a plus (+) sign and a minus (-) sign. To shut the flow off, simply use a small screwdriver to turn the adjustment flow screw completely to the left.

Refill: At this point, it is time to refill your torch lighter. At this point, it’s very important to understand that you need to press the small can of fluid straight into the nozzle, making sure it is being pressed down. The next step is simply waiting with patience. Take into account that it will take at least 15 seconds for the entire can of fluid to be emptied into the lighter’s fuel chamber.

Let it rest: When you open a can of lighter fluid, what’s contained inside it tends to be cold. For that reason, after you pour the contents of said can into the torch lighter’s fuel chamber, it’s necessary to let the lighter rest for a while in order for the substance to reach room temperature. Once the lighter fluid has reached this temperature, you can use the torch lighter without fearing malfunctioning or damage of any kind.

Open the fuel flow: Finally, you are almost ready to continue enjoying your torch lighter. The last step is to simply open the fuel flow. To do this, just reverse the previously enacted step of shutting the flow off by turning the adjustment screw completely to the left using a small screwdriver. However, make sure not to over-do it. First, turn the adjustment screw only a half of the way to the right. After that, try to light up. If the flame is not ample enough at this point, turn the screw a bit more to the right. Continue doing this until the flame is potent enough for your needs.

In Conclusion

After going over the features of the five products featured in this guide, what makes a great torch lighter becomes very clear. Despite being very different from each other, they are all efficient, reliable and durable. Apart from providing basic knowledge, the information presented in this guide will also help you decide which torch lighter is the best one for your own needs. Hopefully, when you make your next purchase, this understanding will help you make the best decision.

You shouldn’t blow into the torch jet chamber because it puts moisture in there which will cause it to malfunction.
